CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGEMENT

ECM GROUP

What is construction project management (CPM)?

Construction project management (CPM) is an essential tool for keeping construction projects organized, on time, and on budget. CPM involves managing and overseeing construction processes from planning to delivery and can be applied to individual projects or to an entire construction management company. The unique challenges of CPM include managing project constraints and safety details, as well as coordinating a wide variety of stakeholders.

To effectively manage a construction project, it's important to have a means of tracking vendor management, budgeting, cost estimating, change orders, project schedules, inspection records, bidding processes, contract negotiations, quality control, safety management and site monitoring. In addition, adherence to project management best practices is essential to project success.

The six phases
of CPM

The six phases of CPM include:

initiation,

planning,

execution,

monitoring and controlling,

commissioning,

close-out.

During the initiation phase, the team works with the client to identify needs and plan how to meet them. Planning involves developing a detailed project plan and timeline. Execution involves implementing the plan and monitoring progress. Monitoring and control involves tracking progress and making any necessary adjustments. Commissioning involves testing and checking that everything is working properly before final delivery. Close-out involves completing the project and evaluating its success.
